Andrew Biggs launches ABC for Thais Over 1000 videos to be featured on a new e-learning website at just THB 11 a day catering to ages 0-85 years
June 5th 2019, Bangkok – Andrew Biggs, Australian author, writer and founder of English language school Andrew Biggs Academy, today announced the launch of ABC – Andrewbiggs.com, a website dedicated to English language learning for Thais.
ABC is a one-stop shop for English language learning in Thailand for anyone, aged between 0 and 85 years, who would like to get proficient at English.
For an annual fee of just THB 3999, or THB 11 a day, subscribers get access to over 1000 videos and a diverse array of resources designed to improve their English.
The main two resources are Video On Demand and Live Online Learning.
Video on Demand includes the largest collection of learning English video clips in Thailand. This is for self- study and students can access any of the videos as a course or a one-off brush-up.
There are courses for babies, students, teens, adults and the elderly. Courses are both general and for specific needs. Some of these videos include English for beginners; English for general conversation; grammar and exam prep lesson for GAT-PAT, IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC; Business English; and English for professionals in hospitality, restaurants and other industries. New videos will be added every day.
Live online learning is one-on-one teaching by qualified English language teachers for kids, teens and adults. Classes are divided into 25 minutes block and students can select their favorite teacher, time and course per their convenience.
“Just like any industry, technology is disrupting education and online learning and virtual classroom is the future of education at all levels,” said Andrew.
According to the Global Digital Report 2019, there are 57 million internet users in Thailand. The country’s average daily time spent on the internet via any device is 9.11 hours, with 3.44 hours watching TV which includes video-on-demand.
“I wanted to create an online English learning website that could be accessed by everyone via their tablet, PC or mobile phone, 24 hours, at an affordable price. You could be a student, a parent or a grandfather up north in Mae Hongson, down south in Narathiwat or in northeast in Buriram – all you need is internet access and a digital device, and you can learn English at the comfort of your home or office, without having to spend tens of thousands of Baht learning English elsewhere,” he added.
Having lived in Thailand for 30 years and working closely with the Thai Ministry of Education and over thousands of schools nationwide, Andrew understands very well the pain points faced by Thai students learning English. The curriculum used at ABC is based on the one he has developed at Andrew Biggs Academy and approved by the Ministry of Education.
“To speak English effectively and confidently, Thai people need to change their mindset and not be afraid to make mistakes. They should immerse themselves in an English speaking environment and practice, practice and practice,” said Andrew, adding, “This is the way I learned Thai.”
Most of the videos are presented by Andrew himself in his signature light-hearted and entertaining style along with other Thai and foreign tutors who have worked with Thai students and understand their challenges with English language.
Andrew has written more than 20 books in Thai. The first, Thailand In My Eyes, was a number one bestseller, followed by How To Speak English Like A Guava (Farang), which has sold more than 300,000 copies. Altogether he has sold nearly one million books and CDs in Thailand.
He was the first westerner to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and the Thai language from Ramkhamhaeng University, and is currently back there doing a Master’s Degree in Education in Innovative Curriculum and Learning Management.
ABC is part of BEC-Tero Education Co., Ltd and founded by Andrew Biggs, George Anderssen (founder of thaivisa.com) and Brian Marcar, Director, BEC-Tero Entertainment Co., Ltd.
